Festive season styles with hair extensions

With the festive season upon us, we know that many of you are looking to create some new looks for upcoming parties and of course for Christmas Day itself.

One of the easiest ways to achieve this is with hair extensions.  Here's our guide to creating some amazing looks for the silly season that will have everyone talking (for the right reasons!).

Step 1. Choose the type of extensions

The first thing you should do is to choose the right type of extensions

Hair extensions look their best if they look natural on you - applying mismatched extensions will not only be super obvious, but will also most likely make you feel uncomfortable while you're sipping cocktails under the fairy lights.

For hairstyles with a ponytail as base (think a long swishy pony or a gorgeous, full bun), you should use a ponytail hair extension.

If you’re looking for volume, you can choose between clip-in hair extensions and tape-in hair extensions. Clip-ins are be easier to wear and remove but tape-ins will blend seamlessly with your own hair.

Step 2.  Choose the right colour

For a natural look, you'll want your hair to blend seamlessly with your extensions (see our guide on how to choose your colour here).

You can also have your extensions dyed to perfectly match your own hair, or go with a slightly different shade if you want to achieve a highlighted look.

Step 3. Prep your hair

Make sure your hair - and your extensions - are in tip top shape by using a specially formulated shampoo, conditioner and treatment (check out our organic range here). This will ensure your do looks its best.

Adding some voluminising dust spray will give your do some added va-va-voom and ensure your style lasts all day - and into the night.

Step 4. Choose your style

Whether you prefer a classy up-do or a sexy cascade of curls, make sure to practice the style before any big events (or enlist the help of a hair stylist on the day!)

For special events, we love the following styles:

  • long, high ponytail - either straight or curly this style is both classic and on-trend, and is a great option in warmer weather (hello, Australian Christmas!)
  • glamorous, full bun - a gorgeous, oversized bun is another classic look suited to warm weather - finish it off with a bow for a cute & festive touch
  • beachy, mermaid waves - a modern, summery look perfect for more relaxed get togethers (you can read our how-to guide for this look here)
  • sleek & straight - an elegant and chic style perfect for more formal events (finish off with argan oil serum to keep frizzies at bay)
